A bit about the local area and the event venue.
Godalming is a historic market town located in Surrey situated in some of the finest countryside in southern England. Narrow attractive streets, lined with many ancient and historic buildings, lie alongside the River Wey. Godalming is a town with many famous sons and daughters, for example, artist, gardener and craftswoman, Gertrude Jekyll, and in 1881 became the first town in the world to have electric public street lighting.
Godalming also formed the backdrop for the romantic comedy and Christmas movie, the Holiday; where hollywood star Cameron Diaz and London newspaper editor Kate Winslet look to escape during the holidays by doing a house swap. Jude Law and Jack Black also star as the love interests.
Godalming is located 30 miles to the south west of London. Godalming has good access by road (A3), and by rail from London Waterloo (47 mins), as well as a convenient cross country rail link via Guldford from London’s Gatwick airport (LGW).

Latest news & announcements.
We have been delighted by the level of interest shown in this year's UK Open Riichi, and are pleased to note that by virtue of the numbers participating and the number of countries represented, it now seems that the tournament will be MERS 3 rated.
We plan to set up gatherings for social play and general socialising in a local bar on both the Friday and Saturday evenings.
We have nominated the Manor (Premier) Inn, just five or six minutes’ walk from our tournament venue as the best place to foregather on Friday evening, whether merely for social purposes or, for the benefit of those who wish to limber up with a few hands before the weekend’s competition, a few sets will be available in the bar. Feel free to bring your own too.
Alternatively, this might be a good opportunity to explore the attractive centre of historic Godalming with its narrow, winding cobbled streets, and many places to eat and drink. Just be aware – it’s Godalming Staycation Week, (that’s being on holiday while staying at home, in case it wasn’t obvious) so it’s sure to be busy, but well worth a visit at some point during your stay in the area.
We have reserved some dedicated space from 7.30 onwards in The Cricketers a traditional English pub located in Farncombe just under 2km from our venue.
Nightingale Road, Farncombe, GU7 2HU
The Cricketers is closer still to the centre of Godalming, so if anyone chooses to visit the Town Centre first on Saturday evening, they can still rejoin the group at the Cricketers afterwards with reasonable ease. Directly after play finishes on Saturday we will provide some transport assistance to (not from!) The Cricketers for those who do not have their own.
