A bit about the local area and the event venue.
Godalming is a historic market town located in Surrey situated in some of the finest countryside in southern England. Narrow attractive streets, lined with many ancient and historic buildings, lie alongside the River Wey. Godalming is a town with many famous sons and daughters, for example, artist, gardener and craftswoman, Gertrude Jekyll, and in 1881 became the first town in the world to have electric public street lighting.
Godalming also formed the backdrop for the romantic comedy and Christmas movie, the Holiday; where hollywood star Cameron Diaz and London newspaper editor Kate Winslet look to escape during the holidays by doing a house swap. Jude Law and Jack Black also star as the love interests.

Latest news & announcements.
There has been an enthusiastic response to the idea of having a BBQ on Saturday evening after the close of play on Saturday (Day 1 of the Riichi tournament) at the Broadwater Pavilion, home of Guildford and Godalming Rugby Club and for the third year running our venue for the UK’s biggest mahjong event.
A selection of perfectly “browned meats” and “greened vegetables” (for those who have ordered the vegetarian option) will be prepared by our resident chef and served with salad accompaniments at about 7:30. We will ask you to pay the chef £10 on the night when you collect your food.
Most of you have already indicated whether you will be attending or not; if your plans change and you wish to be added to/removed from the list, please let us know beforehand.
Pre-registration for the events, and a chance to socialise with fellow competitors will be available on the eve of the tournaments at The Star, in Church Street Godalming.
This charming, iconic English pub is the one featured on the front page of our website and in addition to consistently offering a dozen or more English real ales, has won the title of National Cider Pub of the Year 2019 for the 5th year running.
Doubtless some gentle practice will be undertaken by some of the competitors on these two evenings. For both events, normal registration will also be available on the morning of the event at the Broadwater Pavilion from 08.45 onwards, but there will not be a pre-registration opportunity at the Broadwater Pavilion on the previous evenings.
If you have not yet visited the heart of Godalming, this is a great opportunity to enjoy its charm.
